The 2003 Odyssey of the mind Western Region Tournament, sponsored by the Office for Rural Education within the College of Education and Allied Professions, will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2003 on the campus of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. Beginning in early November, tournament registration packets were mailed to all paid memberships. Registration packets are also being mailed daily to all new memberships as we receive notification from the Odyssey of the Mind main office. If you have paid your membership fee and have not received a registration packet for the Western Region Tournament, please contact Laura Phillips at phillipsl@wcu.edu or (828) 227-7347.

In order to have a successful tournament, we depend on judges and volunteers. In early November, a letter and a Judge/Volunteer Intent Form were mailed to all past judges and others that have expressed an interest in helping. We have had a fair return, but we still need a number of good judges and volunteers. We need lots of helping hands to be sure that the team members get every consideration for the work that they have done these past few months. The teams deserve to have the best tournament that we can offer. If you have not returned your intent form, please do so as soon as possible. For those of you who did not receive the materials, a copy of the letter, intent form, problem synopses, description of judging positions and a flyer are attached. Please print these materials and sign up to be a judge or volunteer. Feel free to share these materials with others who may be interested. • Friday, February 7, 2003 – Early Bird Registration Due ($65 per team)

• Friday, February 28, 2003 – Regular Registration Due ($100 per team)
• Friday, February 28, 2003 – No registrations will be accepted after this date
• Saturday, March 22, 2003 – Western Region Odyssey of the Mind Tournament at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC
• Friday, April 4, 2003 – NCOM Board of Directors Meeting in Rocky Mount, NC
• Saturday, April 5, 2003 – NC Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament at NC Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, NC
• Wednesday – Saturday, May 28 – 31, 2003 – World Finals at Iowa State University in Ames, IA
