for Selecting Designs for North Carolina

Odyssey of the Mind Trading Pins

 

 

  • PURPOSE OF THESE GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES – The purpose for developing this document is to allow for the full participation of everyone in the development of our official North Carolina Odyssey of the Mind trading pins.  This document describes the development of designs, the selection process, distribution of the pins and how the proceeds are used.  Everyone involved in the North Carolina Odyssey of the Mind Program is encouraged to become involved in the development of the state pins.
  • SUBMISSION OF PIN IDEAS AND ART WORK -The North Carolina Odyssey of the Mind Board of Directors encourages the submission of art work and pin ideas.  Anyone may submit pin ideas and artwork.  All design ideas and artwork or other materials are to be submitted to either Carolyn Braly or Barbara Parris, Co-Chairs of the Pin Selection Committee by September 1.  A standing invitation to submit ideas for pin designs will be posted on the North Carolina Odyssey of the Mind Web Site at this URL http://western.ncom.org or http://ncom.org.  Regional Directors are encouraged to post the same invitation on regional web pages and send appropriate communication to memberships in their regions.
  • MEMBERSHIP OF PIN SELECTION COMMITTEE -The Pin Selection Committee membership and Co-Chairs are selected annually by the Board of Directors.  Membership shall include at least one Board member from each of the regions in the state and other interested members or individuals as approved by the Board or the Pin Selection Committee.
  • COMMITTEE REVIEW AND SELECTION PROCESS - On September 1 of each year, Barbara Parris, Co-Chair, will compile all submitted ideas and artwork (along with past design ideas) and distribute copies to the committee members for preliminary review.  A meeting of the Pin Selection Committee will be scheduled during the last two weeks of September if possible.  The meeting will be held at a location near the central part of the state or at another location as determined by the committee.  After a full review of all design ideas, the Pin Selection Committee will select the pin designs for the new Odyssey of the Mind season.  These pins are the only official trading pins for North Carolina and will bear the letters NCOM, NC Odyssey of the Mind, North Carolina Odyssey of the Mind, North Carolina OotM or NC OotM and the year.
  • PIN SALES - The official North Carolina Odyssey of the Mind pins will be available for purchase at all regional tournaments and the state tournament.  All proceeds from the sale of pins are used to help support the state program. 
  • PINS FOR WORLD FINALS - All team members, coaches, officials and other individuals advancing to World Finals will be given an opportunity to purchase the official North Carolina trading pins at a reduced price.
  • REGIONAL PINS – Each Odyssey of the Mind region in the state may develop their own pins.  The regional pins can use the letters NCOM, NC Odyssey of the Mind, North Carolina Odyssey of the Mind, North Carolina OotM or NC OotM.  However, the regional pins must bear the region’s name on the pins and be available for purchase by all teams advancing to World Finals from that region.  If pins are still available after the regional teams are supplied, the remaining pins may be sold to others in the state.
  • INDIVIDUAL TEAM PINS - The North Carolina Odyssey of the Mind Board of Directors encourages teams to purchase the official North Carolina pins which will be available to all teams advancing to World Finals.  If a team or individual designs their own pin, the pin CANNOT bear the letters NCOM, NC Odyssey of the Mind, North Carolina Odyssey of the Mind, North Carolina OotM or NC OotM.  These letters can only appear on official North Carolina state and regional trading pins.  All team/individual pin designs should be designed with appropriate subject matter and may have their team’s name, school name, or their Odyssey of the Mind problem name.  Teams should get their pin design approved by either Barbara Parris (barbaraparris@verison.net) or Carolyn Braly (bralyc@coastalnet.com), Co-Chairs of the Pin Selection Committee.

 

  • Important Notice - The use of “OM” is illegal and strictly forbidden by court order.  We have been warned that pins bearing “OM” Will be confiscated at World FINALS.
